How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I have used a Prezi to present the different technologies I used doing the processes of my A2 coursework, it can be found on the following link:

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I sent out a message to a few people on Facebook that I knew would give me sufficient feedback as I knew using a social networking site would be a great way of using my resources to their advantage. The message read the following:

FIRST RESPONSE

"righttttt
no.1 positive: the female singer character is believable, Georgina fits in with the sound of the music like she looks as she is expected to
no.2 positive: the narrative and plot is correctly shown like its evident that the boyfriend is acting shady and is with another girl and no.3 positive: I like the black and white and cuts from each scene and how they transition
no.1 negative: the music gets louder where it's been cut and restarted
no. 2 negative: obviously the male character not being Jonny like would have been slightly more serious as using a girl to play a boy character made it more funny"

SECOND RESPONSE
"I think that this video belongs to the R&B genre, but could also be associated with Pop. I think this because of the actual song that has been used, and also because I think that a typical narrative for this genre is the 'cheating' story, which this video obviously follows. The shots that feature the main girl in the video singing are quite like videos from this genre as they show the confident attitude of the character.
POSITIVES
1. As I mentioned I think that the video has a really clear storyline which is easy to follow. Because the events are in chronological order I found it easy to understand what was happening which allowed me to sympathise with the girl and really get involved with what was happening to her.
2. I really liked the way that you put the shots of the singer in black and white as I feel they made them more sophisticated and reminded me of a Beyonce video.
3. The short scenes such as the lipstick on the collar and the phone ringing are really obvious signifiers for when someone is cheating, making the video really relatable for many young women who have been through a similar experience.

NEGATIVES
1. One negative that I would suggest is that because the male is actually played by a female, it makes the video very humorous. This contrasts with the serious sophistication of the black and white singing shots and makes the mood confusing.
2. In some parts the editing of the shots is a bit jumpy, which takes away from the overall professional look of the video.
3. Finally, I feel that perhaps the shots are all a bit too long, which could result in the audience losing interest."

It became evident that it wasn't appropriate to the nature of the music video to use a girl playing the boyfriend character and it would have increased the authenticity factor if I had used an actual male, however as I previously mentioned I hadn't intended on doing so but my originally casted J dropped out the night before filming and it would have been hard to rearrange a time suiting the timetables of the others involved.
I also recognise that the editing of the video is a bit jumpy and doesn't flow particularly well at times but I put this down to my lack of experience with the Premiere Pro software, however if I were to do it again I would ask for more guidance and probably give myself more time to get familiar with the programme before jumping in with creating my final piece.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I then focused more on the narrative of the song itself rather than the album package as a whole when constructing my music video. I feel that I still achieved showing a different side to the album which was my intentions from the start as I have previously spoken about wanting to show the target audience that the composition of the entire record is eclectic and quite diverse which is realistically what a lot of young female artists strive to do in more recent years as they want to expand their fan bases therefore growing their brands and overall success. I feel that because in the video  Kally is shown to be quite a vulnerable character throughout the location scenes compared to her more confident and almost alter ego self in the studio scenes where she's actually singing into the camera, this represents two different sides to her which is something that can be seen on the alternative ancillary tasks. This sort of idea was done more dramatically by Beyonce on her I Am... Sasha Fierce campaign whereby she acknowledged and presented her alter ego Sasha Fierce to the world and admitted that it was a different side to her and someone that she used on stage (see below)

LOCATION AND CAMERA ANGLES

House Scene
So there are a number of places that I'll be using within the house location for my home set the main areas being the bedroom and the living room, I also want to use the stairway and the landing for a brief scene that's quite important to the narrative. I think it's important that I get a varied set of camera angles in order to build up the fluidity of the final product so that clips aren't lasting for too long but instead can be seen from a number of perspectives that can be cut to. It also makes the product more visually appealing and generally more interesting to the viewer if there are a wide range of camera angles so that they are kept on their toes and taking note of everything they're seeing.

This is a few of the shots I was considering using angle wise when filming a scene whereby Kally and J are in bed together and he ignores her whilst on his phone. I thought it may be interesting to have a shot of them side onwards as you can see to the left, so that I could possibly have a shot of Kally turning over and this would be become a close up of her face. The above mid shots are just to build up the mise en scene and ensure the viewer can see this is an authentic bedroom and it makes their living environment look more real.

These are a angles I was considering using for my video. Part of the narrative is that Kally is looking through the washing when she finds lipstick on J's shirt and this is one of the signs he's been cheating on her. I thought I could build up the scene by seeing her walk up the stairs before she gets to the landing to look at the washing therefore using a different camera shot than what may have been expected.

I know that I will definitely be incorporating a scene where Kally throws the boyfriends clothes out of her bedroom window as she's kicking him out, so I was thinking I could start with a picture of the wardrobes from which she grabs his clothes and continues to chuck them out. I will also use this shot, where you can see the car for when J is coming home to find his clothes are being chucked out and we can look down on him; this will also be a connotation for how he should be treated for his deviant actions and he is below Kally who is in the right.

For the scene where J is at home with another girl (Lexy) I though I'd use the living room and show them looking quite close and intimate on the sofa. This will be shown from a couple of angles hopefully and the audience will be able to recognise that this is in their own home and following the narrative better.

PLANNING ON MUSIC VIDEO

SETTINGS

STUDIO
One of the main sets of the video where is where the artist Kally will be speaking directly into the camera. I feel this is a conventional aspect of a number of music videos, especially those specifying in this genre; if there is any acting within the narrative (in this case there is) this is a chance to pull the focus back on the artist personally and have them singing the song directly at their audience.

HOUSE
I will be using my own house and numerous rooms such as the bedrooms and living room to film the home scenes within this video. I feel it adds to the narrative by suggesting that they live together in the same house, they are also quite an average couple in terms of their wealth so I felt using my own home was appropriate as there was no need for an extra lavish location.

THE CAR
I want to use my car to film a scene where texts are found on the boyfriend's phone as I think this is an appropriate setting and above all, realistic, which is something I want to stress throughout my video. It will be shot from the backseat so that I can see both Kally and J's faces throughout the scene but from a a different angle than the generic car shot that is head on.

COSTUME

KALLY (GEORGINA)

In the narrative scenes where Kally is seen in the house and car I wanted to keep her very casual and realistic as possible so I'll dress her just in jeans and a plain top. In the studio scenes where she is with the white backdrop I'd preferably have her dressed in black or white as I intend to edit it to black and white anyway so this would be most effective.

J (BETH)
Beth needs to be dressed as manly as possible to get away with the opposite role she's playing, therefore I'll have her in a shirt and jeans and possibly a hat.

LEXY (ALEX)
I'd like to dress Alex quite modestly yet mysterious and seductive therefore I think black wil lbe an option and then maybe some sort of fur jacket to add to her glamorous look but keeping it realistic. The emphasis will be on her hair and makeup so that you can tell she takes pride in her appearance, as she will only be featured for a brief part of the video I'm not too concerned on her making such an impact.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ALBUM COVER AND POSTER

I have chosen two very contrasting images for my poster and album cover, this may break the continuity of the advertising campaign but I wanted to show different aspects to the album and what the listener can expect from it. The album cover is a very raw and emotional image where Kally isn't showing any particular emotion but engages the consumer with strong eye contact with the camera so that she is looking directly at you and you feel drawn to her. Also her lips looked cracked and her eyes look glazed therefore suggesting she may have been or is on the verge of crying; this is going against the stereotypical glamorous image that is represented in the RnB industry. In contrast to this the poster is actually promoting a more lively image, its very dark and just shows the back of Kally up against stacked speakers which connotes that she is in a nightclub or a similar environment, she's also mid dance and has her clutch under her arm again building up the miss-en-scene and suggesting she's partying. This sort of image would lead the audience to assume there will be some more up beat, dance songs on the record as the artist often makes there image relevant and relating to the theme of their music. By using these two completely contrasting images I feel the artist is represented to be diverse and the album as a compilation of various genres of music that will appeal to a wider audience; something for everybody. I understand this goes against the usual idea of keeping the whole promotion packaging and theme consistent but I believe that it's in keeping with the image I wanted to build of Kally as an artist, and represents her appropriately.
