RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ALBUM COVER AND POSTER

I have chosen two very contrasting images for my poster and album cover, this may break the continuity of the advertising campaign but I wanted to show different aspects to the album and what the listener can expect from it. The album cover is a very raw and emotional image where Kally isn't showing any particular emotion but engages the consumer with strong eye contact with the camera so that she is looking directly at you and you feel drawn to her. Also her lips looked cracked and her eyes look glazed therefore suggesting she may have been or is on the verge of crying; this is going against the stereotypical glamorous image that is represented in the RnB industry. In contrast to this the poster is actually promoting a more lively image, its very dark and just shows the back of Kally up against stacked speakers which connotes that she is in a nightclub or a similar environment, she's also mid dance and has her clutch under her arm again building up the miss-en-scene and suggesting she's partying. This sort of image would lead the audience to assume there will be some more up beat, dance songs on the record as the artist often makes there image relevant and relating to the theme of their music. By using these two completely contrasting images I feel the artist is represented to be diverse and the album as a compilation of various genres of music that will appeal to a wider audience; something for everybody. I understand this goes against the usual idea of keeping the whole promotion packaging and theme consistent but I believe that it's in keeping with the image I wanted to build of Kally as an artist, and represents her appropriately.
