DEVELOPMENT OF CD COVER

This was my original CD cover finished as I had intended it on being plain black and white and I adjusted the levels and tone so that it was exactly how I wanted it to look. Again the simplistic theme was continuous through to the text and as the main image was so powerful I felt it made sense to leave the font as a sub-focus.I then discovered the overlay tool in which I could add colour to the image whilst still keeping the composition and layout etc. I looked at brighter colours as seen below but settled in the end for an electric blue to give it an edge and almost an electro feel, it made it much more contemporary and appealing to today's market.
The text was originally going to be something quite bold, making an impact but I looked at a few different fonts as shown to the left and couldn't find one that was giving the desired effect. I then had a complete change of mind and opted for the more simplistic option which I think works overall and can be used as a brand font for both the main and sub text, becoming something that they associate with the artist themselves.

INSPIRATION FROM THE LYRICS

Say my name, say my name
If no one is around you
(scene where he is with his other woman to emphasise this line)Say baby I love you
If you ain't runnin' game
Say my name, say my name
You actin' kinda shady
Ain't callin' me baby
Why the sudden change
Say my name, say my name
If no one is around you
Say baby I love you
If you ain't runnin' game
Say my name, say my name
You actin' kinda shady
Ain't callin' me baby
Why the sudden change

Any other day
I would call and you would say
Baby how's your day
But today, it ain't the same
Every other word
Is "uh-huh" yeah "ok" (phonecall where he is seen making brief conversation)Could it be that you
Are at the crib with another lady
If you took it there
First of all, let me say
I am not the one
To sit around, and be played
So prove yourself to me
I am the girl that you claim
Why don't you say the thangs
That you said to me yesterday

I know you say that i am assuming things (scene where they are having an argument about what she has found)Something's going down thats the way it seems
Shouldn't be the reason why you're acting strange
If nobody's holding you back from me
Cause I know how you useually do
When you say everything to me times two
Why can't you just tell the truth
If somebody's there then tell me who

Say my name, say my name
If no one is around you
Say baby I love you
If you ain't runnin' game
Say my name, say my name
You actin' kinda shady
Ain't callin' me baby
Why the sudden change
Say my name, say my name
If no one is around you
Say baby I love you
If you ain't runnin' game
Say my name, say my name
You actin' kinda shady
Ain't callin' me baby
Why the sudden change

What is up with this
Tell the truth,who you with
How would you like it if
I came over with my clique (scene of her out with her friends trying to contact him)Don't try to change it now
See you gotta bounce
When two seconds ago
You said you just got in the house
It's hard to believe that you
Are at home, by yourself
When I just heard the voice
Heard the voice of someone else (back to scene of him at home with his other girlfriend)Just this question why
Do you feel you gotta lie
Gettin' caught up in your game
When you can not say my name

I know you say that i am assuming things (car scene where she discovers his other girlfriend ringing his phone)Something's going down thats the way it seems
Shouldn't be the reason why you're acting strange
If nobody's holding you back from me
Cause I know how you useually do
When you say everything to me times two
Why can't you just tell the truth

CHARACTER PROFILES

KALLY
In the video I want Georgina to play the role of the girlfriend that is being betrayed. The girl in my video will go by the name of Hayley; she's just a normal girl that enjoys spending times with her friends, she currently works and lives at home with her boyfriend. Although Georgina is only 17 I want her to be the age of 21 in my video to portray the lifestyle correctly, she is no longer a child but still in her youth.

 J (JEROME)
Jerome is a typical young man, he enjoys going out with friends and although he has a girlfriend he is a notorious womaniser and this will be displayed in the footage as he is having an affair behind his girlfriend's back. I want him to have an urban look that isn't particularly glamorous but instead quite casual on-trend, therefore he will more than likely be wearing a large t-shirt and hoody with jeans, trainers and a cap, this will be the general look throiughout but obviously he will change a few times as the filming is showing a few different days. I want him looking relatively normal as this is realistic and therefore relatable, I want the video to represent the look of alot of young people that will enjoy this type of music.

LEXYLexy (played by Alex) is always glamorous, she attracts alot of male attention but always goes into things with the best intentions. She isn't aware of J having a girlfriend or she wouldn't be seeing him, but due ot his deviousness she has been convinced he is single. She's 20 years old and is often seen out on the local social scene with a large group of friends. She is quite different to Hayley (Jerome's existing girlfriend) as she's always made up and immaculate, which is obviously something he's is looking for as Hayley, although still taking pride in her appearance, dresses very casually and with more natural makeup. I wanted to use two completely diverse characters to show what typically happens in this situation; usually when a man cheats on his partner it's with someone who's physically/visually more 'attractive' and 'sexy' as they get bored of their girlfriends which is obviously wrong and something they regret later on when things don't work out.

CAMERA ANGLES

This is the type of angle I want to use in my car scene as I will be able to see the driver (J) sat in the drivers seat talking to Hayley in the passenger seat and then getting out of the car. This is the scene where he will get out of the car but leaves his phone on display to his girlfriend, so when his 'other woman rings Hayley sees and later questions him on who this woman was, so when Hayley sees another woman calling I want to show her reaction with a close up that will be from the opposing angle to the one to the left.

When J has left the car he will recieve a call from his 'mistress' who's name will come up along the top of the phone as well as a picture of her, I want to use a close up of this to make it obvious what is happening and make the story clear. It will also make sense to focus on this so that when I show Hayley's reaction it makes sense what she is annoyed about and this builds up the scene a bit more.

INSPIRATIONAL TEXTS: ALBUM ADVERTISEMENTS

I love this advertisement as they have kept with the vision of how they wanted to present the album and have used a powerful image that was clearly an alternative from the other front cover so they have a constitent theme. The imagery looks very high fasion and like something that could be found inside Vogue magazine etc. yet it seems relevent to the representation of the album as the way she is standing makes her almost look statue like, something to admire as she is displaying power, confidence, beauty and pride. I love that it's very plain and is basically black and white but this has been developed so that the neutral background which is an off white location, is then contrasted heavily with the heavy black font and then of course Beyonce herself in all black attire. The album cover itself is actually displayed in the corner which is good promotion as it shows exactly what it looks like along with the title of the album which is 4 so it gives the consumer all the important information however I do think it would have been better to include the release date of the album but sometimes this could ruin the overall vision and imagery so it's understandable that no extra text was added.

This caught my eye because it's so theme specific and has been done with an existing idea in mind but obviously manipulating and tailoring it to be appropriate to Britney Spears' album Circus. It's something that is definitely a recognised theme as these infamous posters have been used to advertise and promote circus events for years but because the font is bold and eye catching enough we can tell straight away that this isn't an actual circus poster. I also noticed that as a common factor through album advertisement that the artist name is the main focus with the actual title of the album being a sub focus; this is for what I believe to be recognition purposes as the public will be more familiar with the artist than the name of the album. I also really like the way the date is on there as if to create a hype around this day and ensure people remember it so they go out and purchase the record.
I love the simplicity of this advert. The design is basically identical to the CD cover therefore creating a consistent theme that the public will become familiar with and associate with the product. The only extra is obviously that this image fades into black which I really like as it's done sleekly and almost seamlessly which adds a simplistic element to this otherwise busy design. I also like how the text gradually gets smaller moving down the page which directly indicates to the viewer what the important information is. This is definitely something I want to incorporate in to my album advertisement.

INSPIRATION FOR ALBUM COVER IMAGE

This is Beyonce's look for one of the scenes in her If I Were A Boy video, one of which became her album cover. This is a very simplistic look were she has minimal makeup and the focus us more on her facial expression and body language. Her intense eye contact still shows vulnerability and the fact she has hardly any makeup on along with all of her hair off her face and the camera so close up to her face means she's very exposed and can't hide behind anything. This is very much a look that I want to go for and I want the album cover to essentially be just a face of my artist.

FONTS

I want to find  signature font for the artist that I can use on both of my print publications and that looks distinctive and can be recognised as their brand image. I really want it to be in capitals and a very bold, powerful font that will catch the eye of the public and will stick in their heads, I don't particularly want an intricate design or pattern on the font or for it to have an unusual shape but instead for it to be a thick and strong visual.

This was an example of the sort of title I want on my CD cover, I think it makes quite an impact and definitely contrasts with the background, I would maybe play around with the shadowing of the text or creating a glow so that it stands off the page and gives almost a 3D effect which will be more powerful and stand off the page. I want it to lay on top of a full page image that will be in black and white so I could have it be any colour but depending the tone of the edit the picture may be very light or really dark so that'll determine whether i can use white or black which is my initial preference. I'm also considering, as can be seen above, changing the background behind the text to inverted colour just to make it more unusual and so that it gives the blocked colour of the text another boost off the page. I definitely want the text to be matte and a single block colour so that it looks like it's almost been stamped on the page.

This was an example I did for the sort of layout I want my CD cover to take, I really like the idea of having a close up black and white portrait as the main image and for this to be the main focus point of the page. This is another reason that the text needs to be bold as the it's competing with the impact of the main image.

Rita Ora's latest album cover is definitely an inspiration and follows the look that I'm going for. I love how her skin is made even and relatively pale and then she obviously has quite strong features that are accentuated by darker makeup; since it's in black and white I think it's important for this drastic difference in tone as this comes across well when converted to black and white and it can always be edited further so that all the tones look right with each other. I love the strong contrast between the grey tones and the red font as although it's simple it's still powerful and makes a statement.

INSPIRATIONAL TEXTS

RITA ORA- HOW WE DO (PARTY AND BULLSHIT)
I really love this video as I think it represents the
title and the point of the song so well, it's all about going out, being fun, young and not having a care in the world. Visually it's really colourful and bright and uses effects such as glow in the dark to keep the whole theme contemporary and consistently fun and on trend. There is flattering lighting and interesting camera angles to keep the viewers interest and to make sure everyone in it looks their best at all times, more importantly Rita of course. I think the constant change of scenes and switching keeps up with the tempo of the song well and I like how the camera is in amongst the action so they can get right up to it, touch it etc etc it's all appropriate and keeps in with the theme and purpose of the whole video. From this I will take, good lighting, interesting camera angles and the reminder to always stay relevant to the song.

DESTINY'S CHILD- SAY MY NAME

This is the original video for Say My Name and although they haven't followed the plot of the song exactly it's still effective and looks relevant. Obviously they have done some visual experimenting by separating the band members and giving them designated room with their own colour, they also have chosen small dance move that is noticeable throughout. They are in a home setting though which is something I want to channel in my filming so I will take inspiration from this set up.

BEYONCE- IRREPLACEABLE
This viedo is about exactly what I want to channel in my own, she's chucking her boyfriend out after finding out he has cheated. The whole video is about woman power and this is something that I really want to translate, I love how they're in a home setting and that it's all really realistic and believeable although it obviously has been glamourised and Beyonce is show being a strong and beautiful woman. There is quote alot of attitude in the video that really makes the viewer side with Beyonce and helps to elaborate the story and the emotion that comes with it.

PITCH

STORYLINE/PLOT
I intend to make a 4 minute video using the song ‘Say My Name’ by Destiny’s Child as the audio, the video will reflect the story of the song which talks about a girl having suspicions about her boyfriend cheating as she notices a change in his behaviour. To make my story obvious to the viewer I want to include all the stereotypical signs of cheating, such as lipstick on the shirt or the cheater denying phone calls etc. I will probably be using my friends and other media students to feature in the video as I need two girls and a boy for this along with possible extras depending on scenes that I will plan out at a slightly later stage. I think that this is a storyline alot of viewers will relate to and it's simple but can still be executed well, it's definitely something that has a stereotype surrounding it and alot of people know what the common signals of their man cheating are so they will be able to recognise these in my video. I really wanted to use this song also because I feel like it's a classic and almost an anthem for my target audience as although it was released many years ago it's something many of us grew up listening to and will always remember. The video will be told like a story, building up to the climax in which the girlfriend makes more and more discoveries until it finally comes to a blow and she can be seen throwing the boys stuff out.

PROPS/MAKEUP/COSTUME
Their attire will be quite casual with an every-day look, they obviously need to look nice and their makeup will be done so that they look their best but I want to avoid the glamorous and over done look as I don't think this will be appropriate.

LOCATIONMost of the filming will be done inside, in a house location as I feel this would be the most appropriate and relevant setting in relation to my storyline; this is also beneficial as it means lighting can be altered and set up. I also want to incorporate a scene in a car in which the man gets out to fill up petrol and leaves his phone in the car, the girlfriend sees his  ‘mistress’ is calling when a woman’s name comes up on the screen.

PROPOSAL

I have chosen to do brief number 1 where I will be promoting the release of an album therefore producing a music promo video along with a cover for its release and a magazine advertisement. I figured this was the most suited to me and I will find it the most enjoyable out of all the optional briefs. I listen mostly to RnB or hip hop music so I would ideally like to incorporate this into my project and finished result, I don’t think it necessary to use a current song or use something that has not been released yet, but instead something that I can get a story line out of, something that I can make a professional video for, obviously this is being filmed with people that aren’t actors and there will be minimum to no costs involved so it needs to be something that is relatively simple to act out to with a clear theme.
